What Do Songs Do For You?

We all know that people love to express their feelings to others, especially through song. Well it's time to discuss what the lyrics of songs do.
Songs are really only touch people when the lyrics connect or relate to them; how often do you actually listen to the lyrics in a serious way when you're happy? And how often do you seriously listen to the lyrics when you're sad or angry? I have to show you a quote that maybe you've heard, maybe you haven't.
"When you are happy, you enjoy the music. But, when you are sad, you understand the lyrics."
How often have you listened to the lyrics when you're sad and finally understood the meaning? I view music as a psychological release, I say this because music has millions of different beats, tones, lyrics, and meanings. Whatever your mood, there is always a collection of songs that match your mood. But furthermore, being unhappy can cause more attentiveness and awareness to what is going on, especially in music (a very expressive way of releasing feelings to others).
As a heads up, I will be doing a different kind of review chapter for the next couple weeks. I will be in no specific category but more of a "random artist review" section.

What Rap is About: Can You Pull it Off?

Many people who hear rap for the first time, often don't listen or consider the lyrics and write off the genre as "Devil Worshiping Music" or "The Devils Music". But lets be honest, we all get annoyed as hell when people write off stuff that they don't know anything about or haven't stopped to think about. So the subject of this discussion is what rap is about.
Rap has always been considered the playful side of music. Some artist (I'm sure you can think of a few names) rap only about how great their life is, how much money they have, and/or girls they meet at strip clubs. But if you search farther than those artists you find the few who have made it in the rap world who like to use their talent to their advantage. You will sometimes hear raps about the reality of their life, or generally just the reality of the world. Many of these artist of which have very little names in the music world. When you think about it, our music enjoyment is warped. Should those who speak out with an amazing talent be buried by those who say only what people want?
Rap itself is a talent and considered an art. Have you ever tried saying a tongue-twister and been unsuccessful every time? Imagine practicing them everyday just to get better at talking really fast and making it through your career. In fact I have one for you, it's the worlds hardest tongue twister!!

Did you try it? I'm sure you did. Anyway, with that said, think about averaging 280 words per minute in every song you create.

I hope your view of rap has been enlightened or enhanced just a bit. Sorry for keeping you waiting for my next post. See you next time.

Lets Talk About Music Communication

Welcome to music class, today we are going to talk about what makes good music and why there are so many genres. You may think you know the answer to these topics; well, lets see if you're right. This post is going to be something new; along the lines of music theory, this is going to be more of an insight to music make up and composition. Hope you can learn something new!

Although some people (who aren't music freaks like me) only listen to a certain song because of the "killer bass" or "amazing beat". There's a lot more to a song than meets the ear, you just have to listen for something other than vocals (if any), drums, and guitars. If you hear a song that you like over and over enough times, you will probably find weird, out of nowhere sounds or beats (counter-melody) that were meant to support the actual or interesting lead sound (melody).

Music tells a story, weather it be chillstep or punk. Lately the main story is about breakups, losses, and failures. But do people really want to hear it on the radio? Do they actually want to hear a song about loosing a best friend or important part in their life? The answer: yes and no. Some people's mind doesn't work like others. What I mean by this, is when people with emotional disorders usually find happy music to be very irritating and annoying when they are going through a period of emotional instability. To hear an upbeat song about sunshine and lollipops, when all they can seem to fill their mind with is depressing ideas, can really irritate them, and vise versa. Think of it like this; when you go to work/school early in the morning, and you hear someone going on about how great mornings are when you absolutely hate mornings, it can get very annoying.

With the limited amount of genres out there in the world, there are endless amounts of people who are guaranteed to listen to your favorite kind of music. So lets vote to see which genre of meaningful music is the favorite! Click here for a calm song with story telling lyrics (Lies - Trifonic). Click here for a more energetic tone of music that expresses more of a serious meaning (Bring Me the Horizon - Drown)

People still loves stories, especially happy ending stories. Happy stories give us hope and motivation I encourage you to listen to the lyrics of any song, learn the meaning, learn the story, learn the lesson, and never forget the memory.
