Song Review: Dollhouse - Melanie Martinez (Part 1)

Hey all! I will be doing a two part review for 2 of my favorite songs by an amazing artist. The first song I will review is called Dollhouse by Melanie Martinez. Her style of song is very calm with lyrics that go deeper than just everyday talking. Her songs are very metaphorical. The story of this song is a family based off of a dollhouse set that is perfect when looked upon but is a wreck of a group when "the little girl" leaves or turns her back.

Although this song isn't exactly relatable to my life, I still find the idea, metaphors, and expressions to be strangely addicting (maybe not to you, but hey I'M the music freak here). This song tells a story worse than I've ever heard from my friends; the brother smokes cannabis, the mother drinks, the father is a cheater, and the daughter is just a bystander (as far as the song announces).

Song Review: Walk On Water Or Drown - Mayday Parade

Lets be honest, the number one drive for creating or producing music, is something to do with love. BUT, this song has a different perspective or way to tell the story. In this review, we will be talking about Walk On Water Or Drown by Mayday Parade. This song doesn't express so much as love as it does the trust between love. While I am not a huge fan of Mayday Parade (total lie), I do really enjoy the view and way they explained this story. While there are some religious references, the song is more about trying to develop trust between the two while he figures out a way out of his emotions, and let's be honest, the ones you love are usually the ones you want to trust and talk to first (because who wants to talk to parents?).

We've all had moments where we just need to be with those who we love, weather it be a friend, boyfriend/girlfriend, parent, anyone really.
While this song is all about trust with love going hand in hand (HAHAHA I'm so good with puns, really though, that was horrible), this band is known for a lot of love songs written in ways people usually don't think of.
Just a personal reference, I've found this song VERY relatable at some points in my life, hence why I've decided to write about it today.

Artist Review: Hoodie Allen

Welcome back to my blog! I got bored and changed the URL of my page, please be sure to remember this and share the URL because you're cool and you should help me out with becoming popular (since I can't be popular in person).
This post is going to be focused on an artist who I've recently discovered (that's a lie, it's been 8 months), he goes by the name of Hoodie Allen. This 26 year old star came from an abnormal start, born on March 19, 1988,(that means his birthday is tomorrow!! To state the obvious) and born in Georgia and moved to Long Beach in a Jewish household, he launched his music interest after 2009 when he produced his own mix tapes until his career took off in 2012 by releasing his first album All American. His most recent album released in 2014 called People Keep Talking has a collection of 14 songs.

When it comes to Hoodie Allen, my personal favorite song is No Faith  in Brooklyn. Although I'm not totally sure of what his drive for this song was, I still enjoy the chill-ness and voice to match the song.

Song Review: Teenagers - My Chemical Romance

Okay, so although I listen to a lot of artist and various kinds of music, I'm really not one to listen to a lot of My Chemical Romance and songs like that. BUT, I just find this song very humorous and I thought I'd share it with you.
Teenagers is a song that features teenagers as the victim of society where they will be fixed into more of an adult figure. Until then, teenagers are viewed as scary and disobedient (which in my view, isn't far off from what I see at school). The song talks about the nicknames, drugs, clothes, and "violent" nature of a teenager, which is probably why most people are scared of us (Mwahahahahahahaha fear us!!).
Although I didn't exactly grow up in a disobedient and frowned-upon-for-our-uncontrolled-children society, I have seen that side of the teenage population.

I feel that My Chemical Romance is a very good band with loads of talent, but I never was attached to them as a music addict. I don't know how many of you reading this like that band but no judgement! Music is music, I am here on the dictation of my English grade and because I gotta have a better blog than my friends.
AAAaaaannnnnyyyyywaaaaaayyyyy........ MCR, from New Jersey with a group of 5 rockers. Their latest album launched March 25th of last year, the album is called May Death Never Stop You. For those who love the band, ya'll better tell me if it's a great album, I might review it and get obsessed.

Song Review: Stan - Eminem

Hey guys! I meant to post another review over the weekend but that didn't work out too well... I ended up in the hospital emergency room after a catastrophic fall on my snowboard. I hope ya'll had a wonderful weekend injury free.

The song in question today is a touching song by Eminem. It's called Stan because it was named after a passionate fan who had an unfortunate ending to his life. The story goes that Stan met Eminem at a signing and started writing him letters, he never got a reply and started getting more and more frustrated when he was waiting. Eventually driving him mad, he got drunk and well... the song will explain the rest. 

The Stan in the video isn't an exact look-alike, but shows the real Stan's dedication and obsession with Eminem. Tattooing his "Slim Shady" nick-name on his chest and bleaching his had to match his, explains how real of a fan he was to Eminem. Although on Eminem's perspective, all he can focus on is how uncomfortable he is with Stan's passion to him.

Some info about the movie; the music video for this song, is not explicit, so if you're looking for all the words then I'll let you find it (sorry). Also,  this song is very dark in some places so it could touch on some sensitive subjects, so I will warn you now.

Song Review: Jimmy Iovine - Macklemore

First off, I'm sorry for taking so long with my next post, I was visiting California where I got 3 pairs of music design socks (insert happy face here). While I was in California I got to visit Universal Resorts Hollywood. But enough about me, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas or a fantastic Hanukah, and an amazing New Year.

Now on to the review; I generally don't obsess over Macklemore like I would with someone I truly look up to. But this rapper has already figured out where his voice and motivation in his life comes from. In the song Jimmy Iovine, he explains his expectations vs. the reality he walked into on his way to sign a record deal. The thing about most rappers these days, is they only rap about the absolute best thing in their life, but they rarely (if that) sing/rap about the unreasonable, or bogus events they go through in their everyday music life. Macklemore tells his story of how he expected a big welcome and an amazing deal when he walked into the studio offices. Although there is enthusiasm in the song, it comes from the man attempting to scam his deal. At the end of the song, he chooses to risk his pay instead of having money practically stolen from him.
When it comes to Macklemore, I have no complaints about his story or his music. His musical reputation isn't about how many people he can surround himself with, but more about his true character and stories of how the real world of music production works.

Song Review: Mad at Myself - Issues

This song review will be focused on the song created by Issues called Mad at Myself. The song expresses a feeling of regret of  his actions toward his girlfriend. In the chorus he implies he was only making choices based off of his wants instead of his relationship ethics. Like most songs, it doesn't say exactly what happened prior to making the song, but there are a lot of clues that can give you ideas.
Like billions and billions of other songs, this song is about love. But it has a weird genre twist; most "screamo" songs express only anger, revenge, regret, and occasionally confusion. This song on the other hand, has only regret and crave for an earlier time.
The band Issues isn't a widely known band, but their talent isn't any worse than what makes a good group. The band has 6 members with Tyler Carter as the "group leader"

Song Review: Crown - Diplo

The song I have chosen to review today is called Crown by Diplo. In this song, they feature three other artists; RiFF RAFF, Boaz van de Beatz and Mike Posner. RiFF RAFF is an artist who has recently been introduced to the world of rap or hip-hop. In this song, Riff RAFF is more of the "lesser known" artists in the song. Unlike RiFF RAFF, Mike Posner (artist of "cooler than me") does the vocals in the song, with RiFF RAFF doing the smaller rap verses. And the original beat, tempo, sound, and flow of the song was created by Boaz van de Beatz. Like many others, Boaz in more of an unknown artist.

The song has an uplifting beat to it. It has main verse or chorus that says "Imma be the king soon..... I can't wait to be king!" Obviously there aren't many kings left, the song is very figurative. Most songs use metaphors as a way to send a message so that the people who hear it can make their own connections. This effect is used to sell more songs, sometimes when the song is vague, it can sell better because people connect in their own way. Although there are many songs like this, many people have never heard this kind of music, much less heard of the genre.

Sound Quality; It's Worth It

While music is a very important factor for some people, it can be very hard to find a good way of listening to your music; faulty headphones/earbuds, poor speaker quality, the list goes on. The point is, when you listen to music that you absolutely love, you probably want good sound quality. My referral would be two places.Skullcandy®, which is a store local to Park City. Skullcandy® does shipping to most international areas. They have excellent sound quality and not all their products are unreasonably priced. Their newest release is a pair of headphones called the crushers. The Crushers are featured with a bass adjusting switch to control the level of low sounds through your music. They are made to block out sounds with its noise canceling design. But quality like this always has its price; with its "best seller" and "best quality" titles, it sells at $100 (not including shipping if you're not local).My other referral would be Bose Co.®. Although I know not near as much about them as I do Skullcandy®, every product I've tried by their company has been very exceptional in their making of earbuds. This company is not limited to just headphones, earbuds, and small-size speakers. Unlike Skullcandy®, Bose makes home theater products including Bluetooth speakers. FYI/ Reviews

The song of the week is called Sluggin' by Ricky Remedy. It is a mix of dubstep and "rave" music. The idea of these kind of songs is to built energy until what they call a bass drop, which is usually a different mix of sounds or beats. They generally use this kind of music at big parties or events to build every and heighten the mood for the kind of music. There are most likely different names for this kind of music, but the official and most used name, is Tribal Trap Music. I will be posting links to other songs by the same artist and same genre of music. Tell me what you think about it and I'll try to post more like it!
